Renovation Quote Evaluation Template
Updated 11 June 2026 · 5 min read · Written for Australian homeowners and builders
Use this template to score each renovation quote out of 100 across the five dimensions that determine actual value (not just price).
| Dimension | Weight | Score |
|---|---|---|
| Scope completeness — every trade and consumable itemised | /30 | ___ |
| Materials & brands — named, not 'as required' | /20 | ___ |
| Risk transfer — fixed price, clear variations, ≤20% deposit | /20 | ___ |
| Warranty & licence — current, insured, written warranty | /15 | ___ |
| Communication & professionalism | /15 | ___ |
| TOTAL | /100 | ___ |
How to use it
- Score each quote independently using the same scope brief.
- Drop any quote scoring under 60 — it isn't comparable.
- Among the remaining quotes, the highest total wins, not the lowest price.
- If the highest-scoring quote is more than 20% above the cheapest, ask the cheapest tradie to upgrade scope to match.
For the qualitative side, also use the Quote Comparison Checklist and Homeowner Worksheet.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I share scores back with tradies?
- Share the dimensions, not the numerical scores. It's more useful and avoids bidding wars.
- What if two quotes tie?
- Tiebreak on communication and recency of similar completed work.
Stop guessing whether a quote is fair
QuoteSift reads up to five quotes at once and produces a plain-English report: what's missing, what's inflated, what the best-value option actually is.
